The CWI program builds its content over time so you will go through each level to earn your desired level of certification:
CWI Level 1
CWI Level 2
CWI Level 3
When you register, you can select these courses individually or enroll in a bundled course that will guide you through the full certification process.
Course descriptions:
- Level 1 - Basic risk management and client experience when monitoring climbing activities, particularly in bouldering activities.
- Level 2 - Risk management when supervising and offering instruction and orientations for climbers new to roped climbing.
- Level 3 - Risk management and coaching when offering more advanced roped climbing instruction.

Video requirements
Level 1 videos:
1) Bouldering falling technique (1 min)
2) Offering a bouldering orientation (5-8 min)
Level 2 videos:
1) Top rope climbing minimum 24 feet high, taking a fall (2-3 min)
2) Top rope belaying a climber with a passive, catching a fall (3-4 min)
3) Top rope belaying a climber with an assisted braking device (3-4 min)
4) Teaching a top rope skill to a participant (5-8 min)
Level 3 videos:
1) Lead climbing minimum 24 feet high, taking a fall (2-3 min)
2) Lead belaying a climber a minimum of 24 feet with a passive device and catching a fall (3-4 min)
3) Lead belaying a climber a minimum of 24 feet with an assisted braking device (3-4 min)
4) Teaching a lead skill to a participant (5-8 min)
REFUND POLICY
- Refund request 30 days in advance of the start date, 95% of total course cost is given.
- Refund request 14 days in advance of the start date, 75% of the total course cost is given.
- Refund requests within 14 days of the start date, are reviewed and at the discretion of the organization.
- Once you start the online course, a refund is no longer an option.

- Mandatory course virtual classroom meetings:
- Tue, Dec 03: 10 am - 12 pm MT*
- Tue, Dec 10: 10 am - 12 pm MT
- Thu, Dec 12: 10 am -12 pm MT
- Thu, Dec 12: Content completed
- Thu, Dec 12: Video uploads due
- Dec 13 to Dec 23: Individual Exit interviews scheduled
*CWI Level 1 only need attend the first mandatory course date. All other registrants must attend all 3 virtual calls.
PREREQUISITES*
If you have no prior certification experience, you must start at CWI Level 1.
CWI Level 1
- 16 years of age or older for CWI Level 1 only
- Ability to climb
CWI Level 2
- 18 years of age or older
- 20 top rope climbing outings
- Ability to top rope climb 5.8 and belay with an assistant braking and passive belay device
- Enrolled in or completed CWA CWI Level 1 Certification
CWI Level 3
- 18 years of age or older
- 40 lead climbing outings
- Ability to lead climb 5.9 and lead belay with an assistant braking and passive belay device
- Enrolled in or completed CWA CWI Level 2 Certification
