Welcome Our New Routesetting Education Consultant
Please join the CWA in welcoming Foxman McCarthy-James as our new Routesetting Education Consultant. Foxman joins Heather Reynolds as they continue to innovate and revolutionize the CWA's Certification offerings.
Foxman started her education journey musically, as a professional violist. Not only did she teach violin and viola, she also illustrated a book for younger students. She began routesetting in 2015 and quickly began to teach it, first to female-identifying routesetters and eventually expanding to a broader audience across the country.
“I am always interested in the nuance of teaching material in a way that meets the intended audience's needs,” says Foxman.
In 2021, alongside Justin Wright, she founded Vortex Routesetting, as a research project to compile routesetting program data from across the U.S. She’s found that work to be incredibly rewarding, and is excited to continue growing the project.
“It's an incredible feeling when someone reaches out to tell you that your research helped them improve their work environment.” This research project brought her closer to the CWA.
She gave two presentations at the 2022 CWA Summit about her data project with Justin, and quickly joined the CWA’s Work at Height Committee and Routesetting Committee. There, she began to develop curricula and pathways for education by learning from other committee members that led her to this position.
“The work that the CWA is doing to develop certification programs and industry standards is very exciting, and it is amazing to be able to connect my experience in education with the professionalization of an industry that has given me so much.”
When not working you can find her painting, tattooing, or gardening. You can connect with her here: foxman.mcj(at)vortexroutesetting.com>
